The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will be organizing the second demonstration workshops for red belts (junior and senior), poom belts and black belts.

The details of the second workshop are as follows.

Courses / Seminars : Attend Course to Prepare for Future Tournaments

With effect from 2010, all clubs shall be required to provide poomsae referees to qualify for participation in poomsae competitions organized by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF). These competitions include the National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships which have been scheduled to be held at the end of April 2010 for B and C Divisions and end of May 2010 for A Division.

To assist clubs to build a pool of poomsae referees, the STF will be organizing a national poomsae referee course on 5, 6 and 12 December 2009. The details of the course are attached.

Courses / Seminars : No Retest, No Promotion (Poomsae Upgrade Course)

Participants who have not taken their retest for the Poomsae Upgrading Course would not be promoted if they do not do so by Saturday 30 October 2009.

Those who wish to take the test may call Jolene, Theresa or Rosalind to arrange for the retest.

If you know of any coaches who have not taken the retest, please advise them to do so by the last date given. The Singapore Taekwondo Federation will not accept any excuse for the extension of the retest date.

Courses / Seminars : Unarmed Combat Course (Level 2)

The Level 2 unarmed combat course will be organized in November 2009.

All holders of Level 1 unarmed combat certification are invited to participate in the course which will be conducted under the supervision of RA Jeyaraman, a certified unarmed combat coach under the Asian Taekwondo Union.

His team will include Tan Kim Hoon who has many years of experience teaching unarmed combat in the Singapore Armed Forces and Mr Lim Keng Leong and Mr Tan Cheng Hui, both qualified unarmed combat course conductors under the Singapore Taekwondo Federation.

Courses / Seminars : Unarmed Combat (Level 1) for Poom Belts and Blackbelts

An Unarmed Combat (Level 1) Course will be conducted on 24, 25, 31 October and 1 November 2009 for poom belts and black belts.

Successful participants in the course will be exempted from the self-defence component required for their 1st to 2nd poom or dan promotion.

The certification received from the course will be a prerequisite for taekwondo exponents to move on to Levels 2 and 3.

The Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course retest will be held on Sunday, 4 October 2009 at 2.00pm at STF Temporary Training Centre, Greatland Building 48 Lorong 21 Geylang.

Participants interested to take the retest must register with STF at 6345 1491 by Friday, 2 October 2009.

The primary objectives of the Poomsae Coach Course are to qualify black belts as poomsae coaches and provided them the passport to become a full-fledged national poomsae referee.

Poomsae Referees will be important to clubs who plan participate in future National School Championships and National Poomsae Championships as all participating clubs will be required from next year to provide at least one poomsae referee to qualify for participation in poomsae competitions.

All clubs are advised to start planning early for their officiating needs.

The next Poomsae Coach Upgrading Course will be held on Sunday 27 September 2009 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at the Temporary Training Centre at Greatland Building, 48 Lorong 21 Geylang, #03-01, Singapore 388464

Objectives- To provided opportunities for coaches to be better qualified and informed in poomsae.
- To help them to prepare for their upgrading.
- To equip them with the performance skills.
Contents- Introductory Taegeuk to Koryo Poomsae (Revision for all participants)
- Keumgang to Sipjin (Revision for Level 3 participants)
- Keumgang to Sipjin (Learning of the Poomsae for Level 2 participants)
- Jitae to Hansoo (Learning of the Poomsae for Level 3 participants)
Eligibility- Coaches with Level 1 or 2 qualifications
- Poom belts and Black belts who are interested in learning higher dan poomsae.
Dress Code- ‘Dobok’
Certification- Level 3 certification for Level 2 coaches
- Level 2 certification for Level 1 coaches
- Certificate of Participation for the rest
Fee- $30
Closing Date- Thursday 24 September 2009

In order to give the best learning experience for all participants, the Course Chairman reserves the right to separate the sessions for Level 2 and Level 3 participants if the response is overwhelming. If that happens, the time slots will be 2.00pm to 5.00pm for Level 2 and 5.30pm to 8.30pm for Level 3.
Applicants will hear from the Singapore Taekwondo Federation if the timing is changed. Otherwise, it will be 2.00pm to 5.00pm for all.

Self Defence @Victoria JC on 4 Aug'09

On 4 Aug'09, Brian Sir, together with some black belters, conducted Beginner's Self Defence Course @Victoria Junior College students.

Over 50 students turned up.

The general feedback were positive and wished to continue Intermediate Self Defence Course, if available.

The workshop is open to red belts (senior and junior), poom belts and black belts.

The primary objective of the course is to point out to participants their performance flaws and the areas they should work on from the examiners’ perspective. This will give the candidates a better chance of passing.

If you are interested, please inform Brian Sir.

All candidates who have attended the course are reminded to submit a copy of the certificate of participation with their grading applications. This is necessary for the examiners to give them special consideration, if required.
