CNY visit to Brian Sir's house

On 21 Feb, Brian Sir invited all Zenders and NYP to his house, a tradition he has been observing since 3 years ago.

We were sad that none of the young Zenders can make it that day. Nevertheless, we have a big cosy group with the energetic youngsters playing cards-Rule 1: No Tshirt, Rule 2: Ladies - Skirt or dress only

Sushi and other goodies

Ladies in black

Wealth distribution time

Why is everyone crowding here?
Ah-ha, Choco fondue, that's why!

Thank you Winnie, for carrying the ice all the way to level 5

Whose fingers?

We all had a great time, it was no wonder why Sir made everyone dressed up that day. We are forever in Tshirt, TKD dobok. Finally we get to see each other dressed up!

STF: Grading Information

Important info from STF website: http://www.stf.sg/modules/news/article.php?storyid=605

Interview

For the interview segment, the grading assistant or ‘commander’ shall instruct the candidates to queue up in a straight line about 1.5 meters away from the examiner’s table. They shall stand in order of their numbers – that is, the number one candidate first followed by the rest.
When the examiner is ready, he shall signal the first candidate to approach him. The candidate called will bow, walk towards the examiner and stand at ease about 0.2 meters away from the table.
The candidate shall answer the questions clearly and concisely. On completion of the interview, he shall take a step back, bow and move off.
Candidates should conduct themselves well at all times as their demeanor will be taken into consideration when the examiner assesses them.

Grading Assistants

Black belt assistants who are involved in sparring during the grading are required to wear groin guards. They should not spar if they do not wear the equipment for safety reasons.

Armed Combat Requirement

For 2nd to 3rd dan and 3rd to 4th dan grading, candidates may use short stick or rubber knife. The examiners will assess candidates on their ability to execute their techniques accurately, smoothly and realistically.

Reporting Time

Coaches who ask their students to report early should be present to guide them. In the absence of coaches, most students and their parents will be anxious as they do not know what to do. While anxious parents will be upset and angry, anxious candidates cannot perform to be best of their ability.

WTF Taekwondo Peace Corps arrived Singapore, conducted a training session at NTU

Brian Sir and Girlene mdm are glad that you guys appreciate this special training. 不费Brian Sir 的苦苦劝导那几个不想去的队友, and Mr Keith Chua Sir 的邀请! Being able to go through that 2hour training with only a 5min break inbetween - GREAT start for an endurance training, everyone!

The 2009/2010 Winter WTF Taekwondo Peace Corps (TPC) was launched in a ceremony in Seoul, Korea on Jan. 14, 2010.

Jointly organized by the WTF and the World Taekwondo Peace Corps Foundation, which was established by the WTF on Sept. 17, 2009.

The foundation is headed by Hyu-won Lee, president and CEO of Shinhan Investment Corp. WTF President Chungwon Choue serves as chairman of the foundation.

There are 100 members of the 2009/2010 Winter Taekwondo Peace Corps, all university students, who will be dispatched to 24 countries in 27 teams for about one month starting in mid-January until the end of February.

The 24 countries are Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Cambodia, Iran, Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Greece, Poland, Russia, New Zealand, Samoa, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and Surinam.

Said Dr. Chungwon Choue

“Given the growing popularity of the Taekwondo Peace Corps abroad, we will
increase both the number of Peace Corps members to be dispatched and the
number
of countries which receive the members,”

Mr. Hyu-won Lee said in his speech,
“it is my strong belief that Taekwondo Peace Corps members’ voluntary service
abroad will greatly help taekwondo take root around the world, and also help
promote world peace.”

NYP TKD were very lucky to be invited to NTU training conducted by its guest, WTF TPC, on 19Feb'10.

Proper warming up (in Korean language and demonstration), endurance training, target kicking, basic kickings, cooling down & Q&A.

Although it was a short 2hour training, we were only given a 5min break inbetween, and training resumed all the way till the end of training. Many were seen continuing with their own target kicking, some even went ahead and train their TOC Team poomsae. The rest tried to catch the instructors' free time and snap a photo or two with them (okay, more than that, in fact).

Message passed across to us: "The basics are the strong foundations of Taekwondo. In today's practice, many have forgotten its importance."

First Youth Olympics Games (and is in Singapore!)

Taekwondo, a martial art sport, involves the use of both hands and legs to overcome an opponent. The trademark of the sport is its combination of kick movements. Athletes will be competing in five weight categories per gender during the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

BE A YOG VOLUNTEER!

How to volunteer

There’re two ways to become a YOG Volunteer:

1. If you’re a student, there’re many opportunities to get involved in the YOG through your school:
- For students in the ITEs, polytechnics, and universities, please approach your student affairs office for more information or click here.
- For students in the primary and secondary schools, and junior colleges, please bear with us a little longer. We're working closely with the Ministry of Education to come up with exciting opportunities for you to be part of the YOG heartbeat. In-the-works are the Schools-NOC Twinning Programme where your school may get to host youths from other parts of the world, and other ways for you to be involved through your CCAs such as NCC, NPCC, photography, student presenters, and many more. Watch this space for more announcements in the coming months!

2. If you’ve already left school, and will be at least 18 years old on 1 March 2010, we welcome you to register with us as an individual volunteer (please click here). By understanding what’s involved in becoming a YOG Volunteer, you can tell us what you can do and like to do, and we will do our best to match you to the right volunteering opportunities.
3. Individuals, who possess technical or specialist expertise with regards to specific sports, can also consider approaching the respective National Sports Associations (NSAs). Your expertise might be put to better use with the NSAs. Please click here.
Like an Olympic athlete, a YOG Volunteer needs heaps of passion and commitment because you will need to train for your job, and there will be a lot of hard work during the Games (but also lots of fun!).
