Local News : Students, Be Informed
Your participation are with Singapore Taekwondo Federation, note the privileges you can have for being Zenders and your grades are recognized by a body and not just a legally registered club.
You can represent your schools in the National School Taekwondo Championships which will be officially included in the school sports calendar in 2010.
You can carry Singapore flag in the SEA Games, Youth Olympic Games and other multi-sports events.
Your grades are recognized by a handful of members or by thousands locally and internationally.

Tournaments : 14th Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championships
The Federation will be conducting open selection trials for the 14th Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championships (Junior & Senior) which will be held from 19 to 21 February 2010 in Hong Kong.
The selection schedule is as follows.
Date - 8 November 2009 (Sunday)
Weigh-in - 12.00pm to 1.00pm
Selection - 2.00pm onwards
Venue - STF Temporary Training Centre Greatland Building 48 Lorong 21 Geylang #03-01 Singapore 388464
Eligibility - At least a 1st dan or poom blackbelt Good fitness level (the STF reserves the right to
request proof from a medical practitioner)
The trial is open to Singapore Citizens only
Please take note that the selected players for the 14th Asian Cities must meet the training requirements (minimum 15 hours a week) from the time that they have been selected to be eligible for participation in the tournament.

Tournaments : Ivan Returns from Deaflympics with Regrets
Ivan Mok, Singapore’s sole taekwondo representative in the 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei held at the end of August 2009 in Taipei, almost did the nation proud when he narrow missed a podium finish. Only one point separated him and a place in the semi-finals.
Ivan, facing Andrew Yick Chun Ki of Great Britain in the quarter-finals, was tentative in the first round. He was punished by his opponent who took a 2-0 lead at the end of the round.
After taking some valuable advice from his coach, Brian Peh, during the one-minute break, Ivan entered the arena for the second round with greater confidence. He showed it by using some high risk techniques which earned him a total of 3 points. The round ended with 3 a piece.
For the third round, Ivan decided to play a defensive game. That was a mistake! And it cost him the match and the opportunity to move on to the next round.
Said a disappointed Ivan: “I regret not keeping the same strategy I adopted for the second round. It was so close yet so far. Nevertheless, I have learned a lot from my first international exposure.”
Ivan was not the only one who had benefited from the outing.
Brian said: “I am honoured to be his coach in the Deaflympics and delighted to have gained invaluable insight on how the competition for the hearing impaired is conducted.
“It is my ardent wish that SADeaf can attract talented hearing impaired taekwondo players for future overseas competition. Plans are afoot for a World Cup Taekwondo for the Deaf. When it happens, we want to be there with a bigger and stronger team.”
Well, coaches, you have heard from Brian. If you have any potential hearing impaired students, encourage them to join SADeaf and do Singapore proud.

We were first greeted with Deaflympics in the China Airline plane greeting...
Then, even the drinks they serve reminds us the importance of our support!
The design of the emblem for the 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009 incorporates the following 3 elements: the Chinese character for north "bei" representing the host city Taipei, an ear representing the Deaflympics, and a figure representing the athletes. These 3 elements come together to form simple, flowing calligraphic lines that create a sense of dashing forward, while cleverly evoking the image of a running man. The lively emblem symbolizes Taiwan's undying vitality as well as the courageous spirit of deaf athletes as they meet the challenges of the competition.
The 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009 has adopted as its mascot the lively Taipei green tree frog (Rhacophorus taipeianus). While it is the tinest of Taiwan's eight indigenous species of frogs, it is remarkable for its ability to jump long distances. Similarly, although Taiwan is a small island nation, it has impressed the world with its economic power, springing to new heights.

Colour belt grading 04 Oct'09 & Black Belt Grading 03 Oct'09 (Fees & Document due 5 Sep)
By 5 Sep'09, all documents and grading fees should have been paid to your instructor.
Students with more than 3 absent from main class are not allowed to go for grading. This ruling has been announced & explained in early Jan09, and is supported by STF.
Please also note the change in location for October 09 - Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
Please note the next grading date and venue. The exact time will be announced later.
Colour belts centralised grading 04 Oct
Stay tuned for the exact meeting time. The grading is estimated to last 2 hours.
Brown-2, above 15 years old, going for black belt grading 03 Oct
For ALL candidates who are going for Brown 1 & above, please have the following documents during submission:
a. 1 photocopy of the candidate’s Identity Card (front & back) / Birth Certificate (for candidate below age of 12)
b. 2 recent IC / passport photographs of the candidate
c. Form B (duly completed)
The last day of submission is on 05 Sept 2009 (SAT). Any submission after this date will be considered as LATE SUBMISSION.
6. Late submissions for candidates taking Brown 1 & above are to be done within two (2) weeks from 15 Sept 2009 (Tuesday). Submission beyond the grace period of two (2) weeks WILL NOT be accepted. An administrative fee will be charged accordingly for late submission. The charges are as follows:

The tentative programme and blank fixtures for the 36th National Pesta Sukan Taekwondo Championships are attached.
Representatives of participating affiliates are encouraged to print the documents and bring them along for the Team Mangers' Meeting and Drawing of Lots on Sunday 23 August 2009 at 2.30pm at the National Training Centre. All participating affiliates are expected to have at least a representative each at the meeting. During the meeting, important and helpful information will be provided. It will also be a good time for the representatives to raise any questions they may have.
